Rev. Wayne R. Shelor is the Executive Director at Caroline Furnace Lutheran Camp and Retreat Center.

Pastor Wayne is a native Virginian, born in Christiansburg and attended St. Mark Lutheran Church, Willis.  He received his BA in Religious Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia, SC in May of 1986.  

Pastor Wayne and his wife Vikki met at a Lutheran camp on a weekend retreat in January of 1981.  They now make their home at Caroline Furnace, with their three children, Becca, Jacob and Joshua.   Pastor Wayne started his ministry at Caroline Furnace in June of 2000. Prior to coming to Caroline Furnace, Pastor Wayne served as parish pastor at Good Shepherd, Lexington; St. Mark, Yorktown; and Salem, Mt. Sidney.

Stephen C. Van Stee is the Associate Director for Operations at Caroline Furnace.  He is responsible for summer staff, program and maintenance.  He joined the camp on January 2, 2005 after serving 22 years in the Air Force.

Steve holds an Associate Degree in Electronic Systems Technology from the Community College of the Air Force and a Bachelors Degree in Theater and English from St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

Steve is married to the Rev. Karen Shumate Van Stee and they have two daughters, Kristen and Erica.  Kristen entered Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in the fall, on her way to becoming an ordained minister.  Erica is a junior at the University of Virginia at Wise.  Steve and Karen reside above the camp office adjacent to the Retreat House.

 

 

Vikki Shelor is a Navy junior and she grew up in Texas, California and Alexandria, Virginia, where her parents still reside. She and Pastor Wayne married in the summer of 1983 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Charlottesville, VA.

Vikki holds of Bachelor of Science from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia with specialties in Marketing and Managment Information Science. She works part time at camp. During the summer camp season, Vikki functions as registrar and "Camp Store lady" and the rest of the year she is responsible for the data base, website, publications and some office duties.

In addition to participating in the ministry at Caroline Furnace, Vikki enjoys having time to spend with their three children, high school junior Becca, and twin middle schoolers, Jake and Josh.
