St. John Chapel Fund

The St. John’s Fund is in support of the reconstruction project of the Virginia Lutheran Men in Mission.St. John Chapel

The St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church was established in 1796 in the community now known as Singers Glen (northwest of Harrisonburg). In 1956 the congregation discontinued regular worship services. In 1996, the Virginia Lutheran Men in Mission began a project of dismantling the building and reconstructing it on an historical site at Caroline Furnace Lutheran Camp & Retreat Center. The building has been placed near a spring (estimated as over 15,000 years old), where there is already a reconstructed log cabin dating from 1740.

St. John Spring Chapel was dedicated on May 21, 2006, officially turning the chapel over to the camp. Since the chapel is located in the Spring Meadow, the word "Spring" was added to its name (not because the dedication was in the spring).

Garrett Christopher Guinn Fund

For six years, Garrett Christopher Guinn attended summer camp at Caroline Furnace Lutheran Camp. canoersHe had a particular affinity to the Shenandoah Canoe Camp, because of his love and appreciation for the outdoors. He was described by his counselor as having a "fantastic sense of humor, which really lightened up hard moments on the river and in camp. Garrett brought his very intelligent observations to our Bible studies."

Unfortunately, Garrett died in the fall of 1999 and in memory of him and in celebration of his life, his parents have established this endowment to assist those with need to participate in the Shenandoah Canoe Camp. Hopefully, this endowment will provide the opportunity for God’s creation to become an important part of the life of these youth, as it was for Garrett.
