Summer 2021 challenges and opportunities include staff and camper recruitment, new guidelines and regulations, the mental health of our staff and campers, fundraising, creative program ideas, health and safety, and more. These topics are not mutually exclusive, though; they're all connected. Let's take a look at the important, messy, complicated intersectionality of these challenges and opportunities.

Enjoy engaging discussion, fresh ideas, and time together at this annual gathering! Typically , the Virginia Camp & Retreat Leaders' Gathering (VCRLG) is held at a different host site each December. This year, VCRLG will be hosted online - Virtual VCRLG! All camp, retreat, and conference center professionals are welcome - non-profit, for profit, private, faith-based, secular, environmental, small centers, large centers, day, overnight, and more.

Pre-registration is required; space is limited to 100 participants. Registration cost is $20 per participant, which covers administrative costs and guest speaker honorariums. And - you may register up to 5 people at once!

2020 Note: The Crisis Management Workshop that is typically each November has been merged with Virtual VCRLG. The Wednesday afternoon session will focus on planning for Summer 2021 in response to COVID-19.

This year, Virtual VCRLG includes a 2020 group debrief, daily roundtable discussions on hot topics, optional worship times led by one of our Caroline Furnace staff, and two main workshops:

Workshop 1 - COVID-19 and CAMP: Lessons Learned from Camps in Summer 2020
As we look to Summer 2021 and the likelihood of persisting COVID-safety protocols, there is much to learn from sites that ran in-person programs in 2020. Four panelists from four area camps will share how they did it in 2020. Submit your burning questions in advance to make the most of this extremely valuable workshop.

Workshop 2 - Racial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Camps
Have you ever wondered what you and your camp can be doing to be more racially inclusive? Do you have traditions, policies, practices, songs, and/or camp culture that you are questioning in light of recent events? Do you need help identifying ways in which you can diversify your organization-- including staffing, leadership, board members, and donors? Attend this workshop to dive deeper into these questions and more!

See you in December!
