Last summer, Patrick attended confirmation camp at Caroline Furnace and developed a fascination with the pieces of slag found around camp. Intrigued by their hidden beauty, Patrick took several pieces home, polished them in his rock tumbler, and recently sent them back to camp along with a collection of other rocks to share with future campers.

In his note, Patrick reflected on how camp connected him more deeply with nature and helped him discover the beauty of God's creation. He was especially amazed to find droplets of iron hidden inside one piece of slag—evidence of history and beauty beneath the surface. Patrick hopes these rocks will inspire future campers with the same sense of wonder he experienced.
We are grateful for Patrick's thoughtful gift and for this reminder that camp experiences can nurture curiosity, appreciation for creation, and faith that lasts long after campers return home.
