Learning, Inspiring others, & Triumphanting

It was the first official week of summer camp 2025! We had lots of people on site, including some very special LITs for our Leaders In Training program. This is always a fun part of the week because not only does Tom, Monica and Lindsay teach them, but the leadership team also gets to show them the ropes and what it means to be part of this organization in a staff setting, compared to when they were campers. Here's what our Future Caroline Furnace Legends had to say about their time during training!

“LIT training was like the basics of being a counselor and everything that comes with it like, how to deal with homesick kids, leading a bible study and or learning how to use the walkies. There were a lot of teams building and hands-on experiences this week and I enjoyed all of them. I especially enjoyed on Thursday when I got to lead my own bible study with a group of campers and implement everything I learned. I would definitely recommend this program to other 16–17-year-olds because I learned a bunch about being a leader, but I also learned a lot about myself too. Overall, I had a great time and so much fun!”

“In my words, LIT training is learning how to mentally and physically work with co-staff and campers. My week consisted of training on how to assist fellow counselors and how to keep kids safe while keeping camp fun. I learned that it’s difficult to create fun experiences for campers when other events are cancelled. My favorite memory was working with other counselors. It was fun to watch them work from the angle of a counselor and not a camper. I saw God’s work when I saw people came together throughout the week. I would recommend this program to others because it’s a great experience and can help you grow in faith.”

“This week made a great impact on me, and I learned a lot. Every day we would learn new skills that I was able to implement into other situations later on in the week. For example, on Thursday I was able to help Rebecca with her group’s bible study. There were many ways that I was able to hear God this week but there were a few that really stuck out to me, like seeing the kids wanting to learn about the bible stories, during Thursday night chapel in St. Johns and in all the new friendships I made. I would 100% recommend this program to others that are interested in being a leader here at camp in the future. One piece of advice I will take outside of this experience is to always know your own self-worth.”

“Hey Blog! Straight outta Oakton, VA, it’s ya boy, Chris Devine.

LIT training means a lot to me. It taught me many life skills that I can equip in my bag of life. My week consisted of LIT lessons, evening games, and fun. I learned that I can work well with a team. I would 100% recommend this program to other LIT students, as I learned many skills and things about myself. One piece of advice I learned was to try my best at everything (shout out Finley)! I really enjoyed reading bible study and seeing the less involved campers get involved.

Here’s a joke before I go...........What do you call a fish with no eye???       A fsh!

Peace out, Chris! 👋”
