We are thrilled to share with you that our new Director of Sales, Marketing & Communications is Pastor Sarah Lyon Hess! If you’ve been part of the Caroline Furnace family for a few years, you might recognize Pastor Sarah as a familiar face. We are immensely blessed that this gifted leader is returning home to Caroline Furnace in a new role.
Pastor Sarah served on the summer staff from 2010-2015, including three summers as Program Director. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from James Madison University and a Master of Divinity from United Lutheran Seminary. Sarah has roots in two of the synods we serve. She worked as Youth Director at King of Kings Lutheran Church in the Metro D.C. Synod, ELCA and served her first call as a rostered leader in the Virginia Synod, ELCA at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She’s also served as summer camp chaplain during recent summers.
Pastor Sarah now combines her experience in parish and youth ministry with her love for the outdoors and gifts for storytelling. She’s known for her warmth, creativity, flexibility, and passion for collaborative work. Sarah notes, “I am excited to call Caroline Furnace home again and to serve a community that has empowered and nurtured me over the years! I can’t wait to welcome you to Caroline Furnace and to share the love of God both near and far.”
As Sarah and her family transition to living on property and rediscovering all that Caroline Furnace has to offer, we are thankful to have a God that promises to be with us and with Sarah through it all. What will the Holy Spirit be up to in this coming season? Join us and see!
