Hello everyone! The Program Team is now living comfortably at camp and we are so excited for this whole summer! We are readjusting to the many bugs and warm days. Most of the Summer Staff team will be arriving on May 31st, with a few arriving later during staff training. As we prepare for this upcoming ten weeks we ask for prayers and positive thoughts, along with bug repellent and sunny days. Preparing for summer has been so much fun already, but we are excited for staff tra
This story was the final day of Bible study during my first summer as a counselor, back in 2014. It has since become one of my favorite stories to return to as I have begun seminary. One of the distinctive features of this story for me is the fact that people from so many different cultures were able to share in this single, beautiful experience. Camp is a place where much the same can happen. This place brings together so many people from so many different backgrounds, all c
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
My first summer as a camper was five years ago and I haven't stopped coming since. This year, I have been helping with counselor interviews. Even through the Zoom (video conference) calls, I can feel their excitement, nervousness and readiness. I could not help but remember that I was like each one of them, and stil
By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Wise warriors are mightier than strong ones, and those who have knowledge than those who have strength; for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory.
This is a word that to most people may bring them back to a childhood memory of the house they grew up in. For many of us this word

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
A very simple and straightforward Bible passage and one of my favorites. "I have kept the faith." Faith. In so many ways faith for me is synonymous with Caroline Furnace. My years at Caroline as a camper and summer staff allowed me to discover and develop my "grown up faith" as a Christian. Walking the trails, soaking up the sunshine, talking about God among peers, feeling the Holy Spirit among
Did you know the first time I ever heard about Caroline Furnace was at Winter Celebration during my freshman year of high school, my first Virginia Synod Youth Event? Some guy (most likely Pastor Wayne, although I didn't know it at the time) stood up on stage for a few minutes and told us some things about camp. I don't remember what he said or why I was excited, but I went home and told my Mom that I wanted to go to camp!
And then I never did.

The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of the Lord endures forever.
This has always been one of my favorites and is a comforting reminder that God's got this, and that no matter what I do or fail to do, everything will be okay. For me, 2018 feels like it has been absolutely packed with seasons of life - it has been exciting, busy, stressful, fun, exhausting, and full of change and growth. And yet God's presence is there in the midst of it all. I feel incredibly b
